Anyone For Cricket?

Love It or Hate It

What is it about cricket that people either love or are at a complete loss as to why anyone would consider the game even slightly interesting?

Not an easy one for me to fathom, I don't know about you?

Personally there are numerous things about the game that grab me. Having said that if I am not involved in a particular match as a spectator then I do not necessarily follow the game blindly, as I tend to do with soccer.

Relaxing

There is nothing finer than an English Summer afternoon in a beautiful village setting where there is a local cricket match being played with the relaxed air that goes with it and the customary sandwiches and drinks broken by occasional light applause.

Inspiring

In contrast there is something inspiring about heroic and skillfull test match performances on the big stage played out by Sobers, Botham or any of the world's greats.

A gentle serene game it may seem but ask anyone who knows anything about it and they will tell you that it is a game that involves courage and skill. Cricketers today are well trained individuals.

Highly Trained

They need to develop strong upper limb and trunk muscles for batting, bowling and fielding. They need to develop excellent flexibility and practice their skills with bat and ball. Placing the ball between fielders with a bat used to protect the wickets on a hard pitch when it is travelling at speed is not easy and nor is catching the said ball or returning it accurately from the outfield at speed.

Cricket is a game without doubt can be played to a high standard with attention to a number of specific aspects of physical development that allow better performance. See our main page for further insight into the game of cricket to see how you can increase the enjoyment of your game
