Foot Problems and custom Made Orthotics

One of the things I am often doing in the treatment of my patients is referring them on to a podiatrist friend of mine. Foot problems are so common and so many people live with problem feet for such a long time before they get anything done.

Orthotics

Often I need to have orthotics or more specifically insoles made for patients. This is to help correct a foot position or posture that has developed and is causing problems. It is often the case that patients have already purchased 'off the shelf' insoles from a store or via the mail. Invariable the story is the same. The results as a whole tend to leave a lot to be desired.

Off The Shelf

This is not surprising really when you think about it. I mean how many of us who wear glasses or contact lenses would laugh out loud at the thought of wearing a pair of 'off the shelf' glasses or lenses? Ridiculous, you may think. Yes and I agree. The magnification and prescription have to be specific to the eyes in question. Why whould this not be true for the foot? Are our feet all the same? Of course not.

The point I am making is that it pays every time to see a qualified ands skilled practitioner in whatever field to obtain a good service and result. If you buy 'off the shelf' products for your body you are a taking a gamble with your money and your health. First of all there is a good chance that what you buy will not give you the desired result. Secondly there is the chance that they could exacerbate your condition thereby causing you more problems.

So, just in case you are wondering I recommend strongly every time investing in expertise.
