Fabulous Cycling

Cycling seems to have so many benefits in so many areas, it is just such a fantastic pastime.

In some countries it is THE transportation method of choice. And why not?

The Endless Benefits

It is relatively inexpensive, is fun and enjoyable, practical and has terrific health and environmental benefits. It is these last two points regarding health and the environment that I wish to touch on here.

Family Time

As a parent I love to use cycling as a way of spending time with my children. The kids love the freedom to be able to make their own way and go off in a safe environment, with either myself or other responsible adults whilst enjoying company, fresh air and scenery. They are kept well occupied for a few hours and usually sleep well that night.

Health

Cycling has fantastic cardio-vascular health benefits. In simple terms it is an excellent way of improving and maintaining a healthy heart, lungs and circulatory system. All this is done with the added benefit of strengthening important and desirable lower limb muscles. Not only does this make us stronger it improves the tone of your thighs and bottom for those of you interested in a better figure.

In addition there are none of the downsides of running or impact exercise like aerobics. The sport is, to all intents and purposes, non-weight bearing, meaning there are minimal stresses on the lower limb joints that contribute to degenerative wear and tear conditions.

Environmental

To top it all many governments are promoting cycling as a way of helping the environment. It obviously means less traffic on the road and thus less harmful vehicle emissions. More people are keeping healthy and theoretically there should be a knock on effect on the demands on health services as a result.

The Best of Everything

So all in all cycling has many advantages and seemingly very few downsides. With this strength of argument it may be time to do a little research and see how cycling can improve your life, health wise, relationship wise and environmentally too.
