Menisci Problems. A Story.

The Story

For the past year or so I have been suffering with a menisci problems. Being in the industry as it were I self diagnosed a lateral meniscus problem. Over the past three months it became increasingly problematic, to the extent that I was unable to sit or drive without considerable discomfort.

As a result after a telephone call to a trusted orthopedic consultant, my knee was examined and a cystic lateral meniscus diagnosed and subsequently suggested surgery as the best way of resolving the problem. I suspected as much anyway and agreed to it.

Two days after seeing my surgeon the knee pain settled and has been totally absent, and I really do mean totally absent, for three weeks. During this time I have been very active in my sporting activities as well as normal everyday tasks; yet nothing, not a glimmer.

I left it as long as I dared and have this week called my surgeon friend, who in his infinite wisdom has suggested we leave well alone and see how it goes.

I am obviously happy not to be having surgery but I am amazed at the change in the knee. My decision to go and see the surgeon was taken after months of pain and disability when nothing seemed to take away the symptoms.

The Moral

Once again having thought I understood something about a part of the human body I have been working with for nearly a quarter of a century I am put in my place. Don't you just love it!
