Six Pack Abdominals
I think more energy is expended by people trying to get a flat tummy or the classic six pack than almost anything else in terms of physical self improvement. Apart from bodybuilders pumping up their biceps that is.
The Holy Grail
Strangely there must be equally as much information and advice on this particular subject too. Why then does achievng a satisfactory mid section seem to be such a holy grail of physique conditioning? It is probably to do with the fact that it looks so good and is a classic manifestation of someone who is in shape that it is so highly valued amongst health and fitness enthusiasts. Here I am going to provide you with the simple answer to why you might well have struggled to achieve the look you require despite concerted efforts in this department.
The Truth
Very simply if you do regular exercise of any kind it is likely that you already have adequately developed abdominal muscles. The reason this is likely to be so is that the abdominal muscles are involved in a supporting capacity in most physical activities. If you wish to test this try and perform the simplest daily activity, like sitting down or standing up, whilst resting your hand on your tummy to feel them work. Even better ask anyone who has sustained an abdominal muscle strain how difficult even the simplest tasks are. So, if you already have adequately developed abdominal muscles, what then is the trouble? Trust me on this but it is highly likely that your lower abdomen is covered in a layer of fat. The answer to the problem is an increased attention to losing a little more body fat.
How?
This can obviously be achieved with some attention to your calorie intake and energy expenditure to lose that little bit extra, that believe me will make all the difference. You may need to look at cutting out some calorie rich food and increasing your exercise intensity and duration gradually. Do this and over a four to six week period you will notice those classic muscle definition lines appearing. You can even forget about performing specific abdominal exercises for a while.
