Supraspinatus Tendonitis. A Story of A Resolution.
I personally have just had a touch of supraspinatus tendonitis. This is inflammation in the tendon of a small but important shoulder muscle. It commonly occurs because the tendon is very close to a shelf of bone that often catches it during movement of the shoulder resulting in inflammation and swelling of the tendon. Well with a few weeks of anti inflammatories albeit irregularly (as I advise my patients NOT to do) and some deep pulsed electro-therapy the shoulder is settling really well. The interesting thing is that I have learnt to work and train around it. It was really hurting initially and I thought I would have to stop my physical exercise and was even a little concerned about work at one stage. However, with some thought and persistence with the left arm the right shoulder is almost better now. In fact, yesterday I made the arm move properly for the first time in about a month. It was just what it needed as it feels almost gone totally today. Sometimes the key is knowing when to begin the rehabilitative movements. I think I got lucky yesterday. What I will say is that I stopped exercising the arm when it began to irritate. I think this has probably been the difference between it feeling better and actually gettting worse. It is a fine line between success and failure. To find out more about supraspinatus tendonitis click here
